  • Registration Open for Mississippi Geospatial Conference 2023!

    Greetings, spatialists!

The time has come again for the annual Mississippi Geospatial Conference!

This year, the conference will be held on Thursday, October 12th and Friday, October 13th in Long Beach, Mississippi.

If you would like to register, you can do so on the conference registration page.

If you would like to present at the conference, you may submit the title and a brief abstract of your presentation here. Please note, you do not necessarily need to have your presentation complete at the time of submission; the title and abstract are sufficient for consideration.

As a reminder, students who register are also eligible for the Mike Miller Memorial Scholarship. Scholarships will be awarded to the winners of the student poster competition. Students who wish to present their research are invited to do so as well, but entering the poster competition is a requirement to be eligible for the scholarship.

This year, Board Elections will be held for the offices of Secretary and Treasurer. To nominate someone, e-mail leadership@mastgis.org, and we will add them to the ballot. Nominations will be closed at 5PM CST on Friday, October 6th.

Know someone who may be interested? Feel free to invite them! MAST is a community, and we go through word-of-mouth.

If you have any questions about the conference, feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you, and see you soon!

  • Mississippi Geospatial Conference 2020

    Greetings, All –

The time has come again for the Mississippi Geospatial Conference. This year will be a bit different, as the conference will be held virtually as opposed to in-person. Here’s what you’ll need to know:

Who: Geospatial professionals, vendors, students, and enthusiasts. Come one, come all!
What: Gather together to discuss research, updates, best practices, new technology, and more, all with a geospatial focus.
    When: October 15th and 16th
    Where: Virtual! 🙂

Why: The MGC serves to connect geospatial professionals and interested parties across Mississippi and into the surrounding areas. This conference is our annual gathering to share our work with each other, connect with new individuals interested in the field, and discuss research, best practices, and any upcoming news.

    How: You can register here.

*** Sponsorship covers a table and four attendees. For questions about how virtual sponsorship can work, contact Karen Clark

    Additional Information for Students:

    • College and High School students interested in attending the conference are encouraged to contact Dr. David Holt about potentially having their registration covered.
    • Students are welcomed to attend, participate, and even present at the conference. This is a great opportunity to meet industry professionals in the area, learn about the work they do, ask about internships, and more.

  • MGC 2019 Wrap Up and Thanks

This year saw the 7th annual Mississippi Geospatial Conference take place in Long Beach, MS. The conference was a success, with over a hundred registrants. It was also the first year we had a keynote. Thank you, Bill Johnson, for your wonderful and inspiring presentation.

Congratulations to Ian Stewart for winning the student Poster Competition and Scholarship! His work tracking the locations referenced throughout Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea was an excellent example of how GIS can be used across multiple disciplines to provide more context.

While next year’s conference will take place in October, the specific dates have not yet been determined. Stay tuned, as we will put out an update when the dates for the conference are confirmed. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Finally, a big thank you to everyone who attended, presented, or sponsored at this year’s MGC. Without your hard work and participation, the conference wouldn’t be the success that it is.
